The Institute for German Studies was founded in 1998. From March 2005 till October 2011 the Institute was part of the Belarusian NGO Center for International Studies (CfIS).

On the 3rd of October 2011 the Institute was integrated into its long term partner the Belarusian State University. This integration created many new opportunities for the Institute.

In January 2016 the Institute for German Studies was renamed in the Institute for German and European Studies.

The Institute’s team is formed of a German lecturer from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), a German Lecturer from the Robert Bosch foundation and two local Belarusian team-members. The head of the Institute is Dr. Vladimir Tikhonov.

The Institute offers a wide spectrum of educational and exchange programmes:

  • Study trips for German and Belarusian students
  • Forums and conferences
  • Summer school programmes
  • German library with more than 3000 books and periodicals on law, economics and political science
  • Scientific publications
