About the project

Aims of the project:

strengthening the use of innovative principles and approaches to teaching and learning in Belarusian higher educational institutions (HEIs) to improve the learning outcomes of graduates based on competencies.

Project objectives:

  • to develop indicators for conceptualizing the learning outcomes of the Belarusian HE in terms of competencies;
  • to raise the level and improve innovative teaching methods and the development of pedagogical creativity;
  • to strengthen information systems for student assessment and education management to improve the quality of Belarusian HEI and meet socio-economic needs;
  • equip the Belarusian participating HEIs with the necessary information tools to facilitate internal and external quality assessment;
  • modernize the systems and methods for collecting and analyzing data in the system of the Belarusian HE, improving the management of HEIs in the field of teaching and learning activities.

Brief description of the project:

The project is in line with the priorities for the development of higher education in the Republic of Belarus, defined in the state program "Education and youth policy" for 2016 - 2020.

The project is being implemented by a consortium of 15 partners from Spain, Lithuania, Poland and Finland. The Republic of Belarus is represented by the Belarusian State University, Brest State University named after Pushkin, Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank, Belarusian State Economic University, Grodno State Agrarian University, Gomel State University named after Francisk Skaryna, Polotsk State University, Grodno State University named after Yanka Kupala, Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, Republican Institute of Higher Education.

Brief plan of project activities:

The project includes the following types of work:

  • conducting case studies and discussions for each Belarusian partner of the university on the development of educational and teaching-methodological approaches;
  • development of questionnaires to analyze the current situation for studying, on the one hand, the dominant methods of teaching and learning, on the other hand, the current results of the learning process and the
  • necessary competencies in the Belarusian labor market;
  • conducting surveys to collect quantitative and qualitative data reflecting the trends and problems of educational and methodological approaches, learning outcomes and the needs of the labor market in Belarus;
  • conducting training seminars for each participating Belarusian university;
  • study visits of Belarusian partners to EU universities;
  • conducting a seminar to identify a model for improving student-centered learning
  • conducting experimental activities in each Belarusian university to introduce a student-centered learning model;
  • activities to disseminate the results of the project and assess its effectiveness.

Expected results:

  • a comprehensive picture of the current situation to the approaches to teaching and learning in Belarusian universities and the process of implementing the Bologna process has been formed;
  • improved understanding of curriculum development with a focus on learning outcomes;
  • compliance of the Belarusian higher education with the social and economic requirements of the labor market was carried out;
  • ensured the increasing use of learning outcomes in describing and defining qualifications and curricula;
  • the assessment of quality assurance of educational and methodological tools for Belarusian universities and an increase in its importance for the labor market and society has been made.
