CHANGE IN CLASSROOM: Promoting Innovative Teaching & Learning to Enhance Student Learning Experience in Eastern Partnership Countries

Project goals:

To improve the educational activities of students in partner countries (SP) in accordance with the objectives of the European strategy (EU) 2020 by promoting the development of innovation in teaching and learning (T&L), supporting the integration of technology and research, disseminating best practices.

Modernize higher education (HE) in Armenia, Georgia and Belarus in line with the Bologna Principles and strengthen cooperation in education and teacher development between the EU and Partner Countries (SP), as well as within Partner Countries (SP), by promoting virtual the mobility of teachers and students; and the improvement of resources and means of continuing education.

Project objectives:
  • Strengthen the Teaching Personnel Development Centers (TCDCs) at HEIs in Partner Countries (SP) by building the capacity of staff and teachers, modernizing infrastructure, and introducing innovative teacher training and academic leadership programs;
  • build the capacity of the teaching staff of partner universities by developing innovative and technologically advanced teaching and learning skills, as well as competence-based and research-oriented teaching abilities;
  • establish the Virtual Academy for Teaching and Learning (VAPO) as an international community of educators, staff and students interested in applying and sharing open educational resources (OER) to improve technologically advanced teaching and learning;
  • promote greater awareness of types and methods of innovative and technologically advanced teaching and learning, and disseminate best practices within and between HEIs in Partner Countries (SP).

Brief description of the project:

The project will contribute to the development of special competencies of students and workers of Belarusian HEIs in terms of the implementation of project-oriented activities in the field of international cooperation in the field of education and science, the use of modern methods of development and management of international projects, effective participation in international educational programs.

The project is in line with the priorities for the development of higher education in the Republic of Belarus, defined in the state program "Education and youth policy" for 2016 - 2020. in terms of increasing the practice-oriented training of specialists.

 Project results:

- On February 15-16, 2018, a kick-off meeting was held at Yerevan State University. At the coordination meeting, the BSU team presented the general principles for the development of VAPO. Later, a working group coordinated by the BSU developed a technical specification for programming VAPO.

- The delegation of the Belarusian State University, headed by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Educational Innovation O.I. Chupris took part in a study visit, which took place from 11 to 16 June 2018 at the University of Barcelona (Spain) and the University of Porto (Portugal). During the visit, she studied foreign experience in the use of innovative educational technologies, professional development of teachers, and also developing strategies for digital transformation of universities.

- On June 11-12, 2018, a study visit to the University of Barcelona (Spain) took place.

- Seminars-trainings in the World Café format at the University of Porto (Portugal) on the creation of CRPC in partner universities. The TOR was presented during the coordination meeting at the University of Ports (Portugal). The TOR was coordinated with the technical requirements of the information systems of the universities of the joint venture (official letters were received from the directors of CIT). A competition was held among the programmers of the JV university to be included in the WAPO development team.

- The needs of universities in partner countries in the use of innovative P&E methods, infrastructure have been studied:

  • A toolkit has been developed (on-line questionnaire);
  • Data collection completed;
  • Reports prepared;
  • The reports served as the basis for the content development of% of training courses on innovative P&E methods.

- The regulations and description of the business processes of the CRPC have been developed:

  • Partners from EU HEIs prepared recommendations for planning / organizing the activities of the CRPC;
  • Teams of developers of the provisions of the CRPC have been formed.

- A training program for trainers has been developed. The selection of participants was carried out on the basis of an online application and an open competition, 31 participants were selected, organizational meetings were held with the participants, air tickets were purchased, hotels were booked, visas were issued, etc. Agreements were concluded with the participants of the trainings on the subsequent transfer of the obtained experience.

- On October 26, 2018, on the basis of the Belarusian State University, the PRINTeL project was monitored by the team of the National Office of the Erasmus + program in Belarus with the participation of Belarusian partners and the project coordinator in an online conference.

- On November 5-9, 2018 on the basis of the University of Applied Sciences "FH Yoanneum" trainings "Hybrid / Mixed Teaching and Learning" started, in which the first 18 teachers from partner universities of Armenia, Belarus and Georgia took part.

- On November 12-16, 2018, at the University of Porto (Portugal), the training "Video technologies in teaching and learning" was held, in which 19 participants from the universities of the project partner countries (Armenia, Belarus and Georgia) took part.

- On November 12-16, 2018 at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), about 20 representatives from partner universities of Armenia, Belarus and Grazia took part in the training "Active learning with an emphasis on collaborative learning using high technologies."

- On December 3-7, 2018, at Linköping University (Sweden), the training "Active learning with an emphasis on the use of ICT in the educational process" was held, which was attended by 18 teachers from the universities of Armenia, Belarus and Georgia.

- On December 10-14, 2018, the training "Mobile applications and gamification in the educational process" was held at the University of Barcelona (Spain). 20 teachers from universities of Armenia, Georgia and Belarus took part in the training.

-On February 21, 2019, an organizational meeting of expert members of the Center for the Development of the Teaching Staff of the BSU under the PRINTEL project was held at BSU.

- On March 4, 2019, BSU started training seminars for teachers trained at leading universities in Austria, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and also Sweden, teachers representing the best practices of foreign universities in the field of testing and applying innovative methods and technologies in teaching and learning.
